GOD IS AWESOME We heard that like four times this last week it was so epic Transfers happened and I'm staying in ol' Red Bluff!! I have come to love this tiny town with my whole heart and I am so excited everyday to see what crazy thing we will do next. I have a new companion sister Rasmussen and she is the sweetest and bestest human alive. She came here from my baby area so we have been sharing some of the memories of Gridley.  We were talking yesterday about the same topic that Elder Neilson of the 70 brought up at a mission leadership conference in December. "Who gets to do this?" literally it is so weird to think about sometimes. Who gets to go around talking to every person you see just asking them about their beliefs and if maybe perhaps they'd like to hear about yours. Time after time I try to put myself in the position of the people we talk to and I can't even imagine the uncomfortablity and awkardness and yet we get people to ask us to come back! I...

Monday, May 29, 2023 Hi y’all! I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. The tardiness of my email is due to the holiday. We had a day off and enjoyed a fun outing to Warm Springs and a fish hatchery with the Elders yesterday. While in some respects, time continues to fly by, time stops for just a moment when I hear that my grandkids are asking, “When is Nana coming home?” Because the growing season begins so early in Georgia, a lot of produce in the ward garden is ready to harvest. Anyone in the ward who wishes to can come and get the goodies! On Sunday after church, we cut cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, cucumbers, yellow squash, and collard greens. Neither Elder Hintze nor myself have ever eaten collard greens, let alone know how to cook them. Well, thanks to good old YouTube, I learned how to cook collard greens. Along with the collard greens, I made a squash casserole and Elder Hintze made pickled cucumbers. We invited our neighbors and landlords, Linda and Kevin,...

¡Hola, hola a todos! Well I would say that this week was easily one of the weirdest weeks on the mission. This is because my companion got sick. He got sick with a really bad mosquito virus called Chikungunya. When I tell you that this virus kicks are butt I kid you not he had a fever up to 103 degrees it was a little scary. So that means this week I was just sitting at my desk studying, watching church movies, whatever other thing, kinda alone because my comp was just sleeping trying to recover. Honestly too it was a difficult week. Just sitting for hours at my desk with my thoughts and studying was difficult. The days honestly went by so fast but still it felt weird. It genuinely felt like what I did during Covid. If you know me you know that during quarantine for me was a horrible time in my life. It was a really weird feeling because it felt the same and I was going a bit crazy. Yesterday was honestly really tough. After being inside all week and being super chill my mind leg...

YOU'VE HAD A BIRTHDAY SHOUT HOORAY Subject: YOU'VE HAD A BIRTHDAY SHOUT HOORAY   "How old are you?" "IM 20" "AHHHHHHH" It is officially the year of 20 and my mother has no more teenagers. (yes she does feel old) For my birthday last Thursday we woke up bright and early and made pancakes and I got some new clothes and games and Pickelball paddles!!!! Thank you Thank you for all the birthday wishes I do feel so blessed to have all you wonderful people in my life and for all the support I have received since coming out on my mission. Especially from my beloved grandpa who has donated so generously for me to be here.  We were able to go to the temple for my birthday and it was so special to have some of my friends from past areas there. the relationships you make on a mission are seriously for all eternity. What is sealed on Earth is sealed in Heaven and the sealing power of the spirits works for everyone. I have genuinely felt the love Heavenly Fath...

The Land of Enchantment Spencer Neel <spencer.neel@missionary.org> Hello my family and friends!!! Cheers to another amazing week🤠 I made it safely to Roswell and let me tell you, it’s been one of the greatest experiences of my life. Roswell being called “The land of Enchantment” makes a lot more sense now. I made a few alien friends and am happy they didn’t decide to abduct me. Let me just say I’m on they’re good side right now👽 Elder Rochelle and I are going hard with the work and it is paying off. It’s also nice that I’ve known him since the beginning of the mission with us being in the same MTC district. It has been crazy, awesome, and just so fun here. It’s because the Lord is with us and doing so much good.  First day in Roswell we went out and visited a lot of our members to introduce myself to them. I’ve met more members in the past week than most do in a couple transfers here. This is how the Lord is being good to us with opening the hearts of the people. We ...

Monday, May 22, 2023 Cheers to another great week in the mission field! We are really growing quite close to the people that we’re teaching and meeting with every week. When Megan shows up to church with her daughter, Samantha will climb over anyone she must in order to sit next to me. Kelly and Wyett’s little two-year-old always beelines into Elder Hintze’s arms whenever she sees us. It just slightly allays the sting of our absent grandkids! We started off this past week with the second of our Come Follow Me lessons for Family Home Evening. We knew we would not get as many people as we had the first time, but interestingly, we had only three. We were a little disappointed at first, but it ended up being such a special discussion. With only a few people, all of whom knew each other well, we were able to really personalize the parables and apply them to our own lives. Some personal stories were shared. It was a really great evening. We had the best visit yet that we’ve had with Mi...

Working Hard Cooper Acor <cooper.acor@missionary.org> ¡Hola mi familia y a mis amigos! This week was definitely a very normal one. Nothing too crazy happened. I will say though that last Monday night we had a guy follow us and then chase us a little bit by running at us. It was good though we out ran him and I attached the selfie we took right after that experience above. This week we worked all the areas we normally work and found new people and invited a lot of people to be baptized. We are at a point where we are trying new things and seeing what works. It has been a bit of a dry spot in my mission when it comes to baptism and people progressing but sometimes we have dry spots in our lives. What we can do is keep moving forward doing the right things and then eventually something will come. While the work maybe going a little bit slower I will say I have been developing good habits. My greenie has some awesome workouts we have been doing and I feel great. Also my daily habit o...

What's up everyone!? Sorry its been so long since last time I emailed. I keep telling myself that I'm gonna email more frequently, but then always forget to do it haha. I got to Calheta and this area is awesome! Its a small branch of like 14 active members, and there's not enough priesthood holders to have a sacrament meeting in calheta, so we all pile in a van every week and drive 30 min south to go to sacrament meeting at the next branch over. The branch members are amazing, and Calheta itself is super pretty. It's a coastal town, and our area is just a long strip of the island down the coast. There's always super beautiful beaches on one side of us, and big mountains and banana farms on the other side. The work is a little slower here. This branch hasn't had a missionary baptism in over 3 years. But we're hoping to change that, we've got one guy on date and a couple super promising investigators. Ku fé na Deus it'll all work out. This week I went ...

It's official, after 5 transfers I'm leaving Tualatin and heading to Hillsboro!! I'm so grateful for what I have learned and the people I have met here.  I know that Jesus is the Christ. I know He is leading this work. I love you all! I know that change is good, so embrace the change you find in your lives!  Con mucho amor, hermana Gardner

Jen Hammond's Bread Recipes

Emily's Whole Wheat Bread 3½ cup whole wheat flour 1/3 cup vital wheat gluten 1 Tablespoon + 1 t. instant yeast 2½ cups hot water 1 Tablespoon salt 1/3 cup oil 1/3 cup honey or ½ c. sugar (I like honey the best) 4 Tablespoon bottled lemon juice 2¼ - 2½ cups whole wheat flour Mix together the first three ingredients in your mixer with a dough hook. Add water all at once and mix for 1 minute; cover and let rest for 10 minutes (this is called sponging). Add salt, oil, honey or sugar, and lemon juice and beat for 1 minute. Add last flour, 1 cup at a time, beating between each cup. Beat for about 6-10 minutes until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. This makes very soft dough. Pre-heat oven for 1 minute to lukewarm and turn off. Turn dough onto oiled counter top; divide, shape into loaves place in oiled bread pans. Let rise in warm oven for 10-15 minutes until dough reaches top of pan. Do not remove bread from oven; turn oven to 350 F and bake for 30 minutes (190* internal ...
