Kittens Week 23: Sicky and the Miracles (my new band name) I never know how to start these emails so.... hey! Hows it going?? ITS GOOD HERE!!!  A cool thing, we had transfers calls this weekend. And Sister Swain and I will both be staying in Waycross!!! WHOO HOOO!! But that also means by the end of this transfer I will have been in Waycross for SIX MONTHS!! Mind blowing I know. But we're excited!!  Now on to the week!! First of all, James gave us ALL his coffee so... we may or may not have a lot of coffee in our car. We're working on it. But thats so exciting!! And he is getting baptized this Wednesday!! So pray for him because yall know how hard Satan works. So pray hard and lets get James on the covenant path! Because its just one step closer to Christ, and really isnt that what we're all trying to do?  So now for the title explaination. This week i had the flu. Or something. Cause i was out COLD with a fever for like two days. Which was just splended. But it was...

Hey guys !! It's officially summer over here on the coast. Lots of sunshine and warm weather which has made this place paradise. Everyones out on their boats, tubing, surfing, or hanging out on the grass doing BBQs or sand volleyball games. We have spent most days by the beach or along the waterfront, making great contacts and getting much needed vitamin D 😜 real quick funny story: elder crimson, one of the zone leaders, is from Hawaii and bet us that we couldn't get darker than him in a week. When we showed up for p day he was absolutely shook. Our skin tones are almost there, so you can basically call me a Hawaiian at this point ;)) But anyways legit most of the population here in Washington are rarely seen in cars anymore and more so on beach cruisers getting to their destinations. Oh and it's a jungle now that all the green has come in. Palm trees and Spanish moss galore. You guys I'm in HEAVEN Highlights: ☆ we did service at eagles wings, a food pantry that we a...

Spring Cleanup - postponed The ward's April 23 service activity in support of the city's Spring Cleanup has been postponed. We love our beautiful state in all its seasons. And, yes, snow is in the forecast. So we'll find a more hospitable day to take on cleanup projects in our neighborhood. Spring. In. Utah.   What we’re talking about Lori Bertelsen will lead this Sunday's RS discussion of two gems from the Women's Session of General Conference: Video, " You Are the Women He Foresaw ," and President Jean Bingham's address, " Covenants with God Strengthen, Protect, and Prepare Us for Eternal Glory ."   What we’re reading This week our Come Follow Me reading is Exodus 18-20: “All That the Lord Hath Spoken We Will Do.” Happy Birthday to you ·        Brooke Strait, April 1 ·        Shannon Acor, April 2 ·        Linda Sumsion, April 4 ·        Kelcie Klauck, April 4  ·  ...

Rurutu I would like to begin with an apology for dropping off of the face of the planet for the last few months. Now that I have moved even further away from home, I thought it was time for an update. I was transferred to a little island named rurutu:)) it's in a completely separate island chain from Tahiti, called the Australes. There are about 2000 people that live here and a more horses, dogs, and pigs than people. When you imagined the other side of Heaven and jungle rural Polynesia when I said any of this, yes that is correct.  A few months ago I wrote an email about laughing at myself and shaking off my imperfections. It's something that has transformed my mission and made it easier coming here when I needed to transition laughing at myself, to laughing at absolutely everything that goes wrong. There is almost nothing to gain from stressing about things out of my control.  With that note, I would love to share a list of things that I do not have here in rurutu and...

Wut up everybody  I officially love road tripping. Always have. Always will. But now it just hits different with all the trips we make to Raleigh or to other cities here on the coast. We drove to the mission office twice this week; one for transfers and the other one for a fun surprise president bombed on us Wednesday evening. I'll share more in a sec :))  But first things first my new companion is sister buss!! Love this girl. Here's a few fun things about her: ☆ shes been out on her mission for 8 months and is from Laramie, Wyoming. Cowboy country 🤠 ☆ we've been in the same district before while I served in wake forest  ☆ shes love to weight lift and disc throw ☆ she did technical theatre, color guard, orchestra and choir all throughout high school  ☆ she went to byu i before the mission, wasn't a fan and will be attending university of Wyoming going into agriculture and meeting her dream rancher man📢👀 (literally her plans) ☆she's amazing at decorating ba...

He IS risen Scout Benson <scout.benson@missionary.org> Mon 4/18/2022 7:46 AM Let the WHOLE WIDE WORLD REJOICE!!! happy Easter everyone! I hope yall had a weekend full of family, candy and Easter eggs.... but most importantly I hope yall had a weekend full of Christ. Easter is an absolutely massive holiday in the South. Our church attendance literally tripled with all the inactive people that came yesterday to show off their new Easter dresses. The entire WEEKEND was spent at family gatherings. We ate low country boil, ham, soooo much Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, strawberry pie, cake..... pretty much it was Thanksgiving. Like literally Thanksgiving and Easter in the south are the same except it rains more on Easter. So yes, our weekend was spent with FOOD. but you want to know my favorite part about the south? Jesus. Every gathering was centered around blessings. Family, love, hope. The weekend was full of crazy mission stories, testimonies, and gratitude. I heard people...

Good Friday   Today is Good Friday ... In the early hours of the morning, Jesus is betrayed into the hands of the local authorities. After a series of one-sided trials, He is sentenced to death by crucifixion. Roman soldiers mock and scourge Him and nail Him to the cross. But instead of condemning them, Jesus Christ begs His Father to “forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). Even now, in His darkest moment, Jesus speaks of love and redemption.  As we review these events, we can also recall President Nelson's General Conference invitation to everyone to seek to end a personal conflict by Easter on April 17. Could there be a more fitting act of gratitude to Jesus Christ for his Atonement? If forgiveness presently seems impossible, plead for power through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ to help you,” he said. “As you do so, I promise personal peace and a burst of spiritual momentum. And, this evening marks the beginning of Passover. If you want to mak...

Week 21: Sunshine: the Dog of Discernment This week has been so long but like... I almost feel like nothing has happened. So that's always fun. BUT!! I do have a couple of awesome stories for yall!  This week we had an awesome Book of Mormon study with a man that the elders are teaching. His name is John. Let me tell you, I have never felt charity so strongly. It was almost like this man and I just connected. And I just felt such love for him. And because of that the Spirit lead me to be pretty bold with him. He had lived his whole life asking God about every little thing, and getting answers. And after a traumatic event in his life he felt like God no longer talked to him. Well actually, he knew without a doubt that God didn't stop talking, he believed that he was no longer able to hear. And so his prayers turned from asking God about everything, to being more like well God... i know you're there but you probably don't really know me or love me so.. you wont answer my...

HEY GUYS  What. A. Week. I've been waking up more and more exhausted everyday but that's just cause there's so much to be done down here!  Transfers are this week...came so fast. This one is shorter since our mission president will be out of town at conferences so that means this next transfer will be a whole 7 weeks long. Wow! I'm staying here in Washington again!! I can't even begin to express to y'all how excited I am!! I'm training a new STL and receiving a new companion. The zone has a few elders leaving and one of them is one of the ZLs. On our accounting call with them last night, we kept singing John Bellions "good things fall apart song" at the top of our lungs haha. Then it made us reminisce in all the sad songs from home and we just laughed at all the things we had totally forgotten about music wise. Rip the quad squad but we're excited for Sister Johnson and Elder Yuen to go make some even greater memories and meet the new mission...

Holy Week   This Sunday, Palm Sunday, marks the beginning of Holy Week. What a beautiful time to celebrate our Savior... You can review the day-by-day events of Holy Week on the church's website.   To relive the events that happened during the last days of Jesus Christ’s mortal ministry is to understand that every day offers a new chance to experience the joy and peace that’s possible because of Him. The newly-called General Relief Society Presidency We are well served by remarkable women in our General Relief Society Presidency. Starting in August, we'll have the chance to get to know the newly-called sisters serving in this capacity: sisters Camille N. Johnson, J. Annette Dennis, and Kristin M. Yee.  What we’re talking about This Sunday, we look forward to discussing the highlights and inspiration we felt from General Conference. If you did not get a chance to listen to as much as you would have liked, no worries-- come enjoy the sisterhood available in...

Yummy Italian Ice Missin' conference with my momma Alternate title: its a swamp thing Hello!! I hope you all had an amazing conference weekend!! Before i get into the crazy that was my week I want to tell a quick story. A year ago in October was conference (duh). My family and I have ALWAYS watched conference. That was something my parents were so good at. And- as shown by this weeks email title- my mom was good at providing snacks, coloring pages and things to... keep us quiet so she and my dad could listen. (But this conference i didnt have my momma and it was so SAD.) But the October 2020 conference was kinda special to me. Devin and I had just started dating and I had invited him to come watch with us. He had... politely refused and said he was going climbing with friends. WELL. He did. And then like less than an hour into conference he showed up at my house mumbling something about how he'd dislocated his finger and had nothing better to do. And so he sat and watched EVE...

Washington old car show !! I'm convinced I need the salmon one now Hey guys !! Hope everyone enjoyed conference as much as I did!! What a blessing that was to hear from inspired leaders and be richly edified through revelatory experiences. Its such a privilege to gather as saints and hear the prophets voice ♡ We had the idea to send out an SMS text to every single former in area book and every less active/part member family we had record of, and invite them to watch general conference. Many many many people reached out asking for the link and sooo many were able to watch at least a session or more! Because of this, we now have appointments set up to follow up on conference and share more about the prophet through the special message of the Restoration. I'm thankful for promptings that come which enable blessings upon miracles upon blessings. There's no better time than now to watch conference and remain close to prophetic revelation! Oh ya, also sister Johnson and I were ...
