Million Meal Event

Brethren One in five Utah children are unsure where their next meal will come from - and that food insecurity has significant implications on physical and mental health. There is a project currently listed on JustServe which has been extremely popular in prior years with church members in Utah County, Salt Lake County, and Davis County. The Church has partnered with Silicon Slopes (a regional tech industry association) and several local corporations to address hunger in the state of Utah. As part of Silicon Slopes’ Tech Summit at the Salt Palace on Wednesday and Thursday, October 13-14, a unique service project will result in one million meals prepared for and delivered to the Utah Food Bank. The million-meal event allows Summit attendees to provide service, but the event is open to anyone who wants to help prepare and pack meals. Every meal will benefit Utah families and individuals who experience food insecurity. The following link takes the user to the JustServe page for this p...

Surprised our favorite Henderson family w/ sister Hansen's AMAZING balloon skills!!  Hello family and friends!! I think it's safe to say this is the happiest on my mission I've ever been :)) Training comes with so many responsibilities but man I am LOVING IT!! My trainees name is Sister Hansen and she flew in from serving at the Historic Sites in Palmyra, New York for four months! She's AMAZING and I absolutely ADORE her!!  Here's five things you should know about her: 1) She's from Bonnie Lake, Washington 2) She's one of four girls and is the second oldest but the first to go on a mission! 3) She loves buffalo franks hot sauce (she'll drink that bad boy plain) 4) She's a balloon artist  5) She has the biggest Disney heart like me and we quote Disney movies all day lol Our first day together was spent in a 5 hour meeting with the other 64 trainers and trainees and then that's when the fun began haha! We loaded the car up with Sister Hansen'...

Xin Chào gia đình!  "Its weird how time actually happens" -Sis Curdy  Can you believe I have lived in New York for a year now????  I love New York with my whole soul! And here are some quirks that I love about new york that happened this week.  1. We bought churros from this one guy while waiting for a stop light! I love churros!  2. Speaking of stop lights, we were jamming out to this one song at another stop light and started a conversation with the cutest lady! "Happy Friday!" She was on her way to game night and pretty much was leaning out the window and I was leaning out the car window to get her phone number! So grand!  3. One guy told my companion and I that we had arthritis and tried to do "on hands healing." But don't worry it isn't actually on hands, but it was super funny!  4. Took the bus and bus contacted this week! Woo-hoo!  5. We got our friend John a Jets pillowcase for his baptism at a very old antique store where we got ro...

Me with my fav book :) when your comps about to die (go home) Hey guys!!!! As you can tell by the title of my email, we got transfer news and I am PUMPED because I'M TRAINING!!!!! Oh my heck I'm literally SOOOO excited!!! I'm staying here in Wake Forest and getting a brand new missionary on Tuesday!!!! It was the funniest thing. Sister Stoddard and I were praying before we walked out the door for church and in the middle of it President Maurer began calling so I quickly ended by saying, "Please help me not to pass out while I take this call, in the name of Jesus Christ amen!" HAHA! But wowza this is gonna be a fun next few months!! Catch us having the best adventures with me and my baby <3 We had a few miracles! We finally were able to meet with Jase, a former we called into while doing area book calls and he's awesome! We invited Brother Reese to join and team taught the Restoration. He has a lot of questions regarding Priesthood authority and prophets b...

Xin chàoooo đội!!  So we call this cute former, Maria, who is SO excited for us to come over!! Tells us that we should come over on Wednesday!!  Wednesday comes around and we knock her door. .... This is not the right house.  Talk to the guy who DOES live there. Sadly not interested.  After that, we call Maria, who said she moved like a year ago and told us to come to her new house and gave us her address.  Drive 25 minutes across our area to her new house. And knock the door.  ....  No one's home.  🧐  **calling Maria again  Maria: "Hello?" Us: "we are here! Where are you?"  Maria: "oh I'm never home. I help my friend everyday from 9 to 9 at her pizza place." Us: ....  Maria: "you should come here!" **sends us the address of the pizza place.  Well at this point we are feeling really disappointed. Our finding goal this week was 12 new friends. We've been praying for a family. And we just spent an hour driving around...

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE!!! I came across this quote the other day: "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence."  If any of yall know Wake Forest then you'll know it's one of the hardest areas in the mission. When we first arrived our area book was empty, the elders left us with one guy and they had built no relationship with the ward. We started from scratch. Ground zero. Getting bashed became more regular since the Baptist seminary campus is literally down the street. Us missionaries are a daily target and we were warned by the ward there would be deconverters who would seek us out and try to shake our testimony and relationship as a companionship.  Was I frustrated? Ya just a little bit XD. I received a difficult companion and knew our great responsibility of white washing would land solely on my shoulders. I wanted to come into an area already popping off rather than doing the nitty gritty work to get it to tha...

Xin Chào!! Có khoẻ không??  Woo-hoo!  I đid indeed cut my hair and you can surely see my name tag without a doubt now!  What I love about this is that people really can see Christ's name and what I represent sooner and faster! I love it!!!  Because I got to go to the city this week for the mission tour we got to take the subways! (I miss my city) but one guy saw my name tag and asked me all about it! And asked even about the tiếng Việt! We got to testify about the book of mormon too! Grand!  Also....  JOSEPH GOT BAPTIZED!!!!!! Woo-hoo!! This guy! Had missionaries knocking on his door for years and always rejected them. But because of Covid he accepted a call from missionaries over Facebook. He said that he was searching for where he belonged and that "he never felt more at home" after he got confirmed. Sooo cool!! God is grand!  Friends!!  When we are baptized we make that promise to take Christ's name upon us.  We don't need a name ta...

So much service We see so much service blessing the lives of both givers and recipients. Thank you for caring for and loving neighbors close to home and further away. General Conference… just 16 days to go! Didn’t Marlene Safsten’s talk in Sacrament meeting get you excited for the upcoming General Conference? She reminded us of the guidance President Nelson has offered in recent conferences, and she shared her family members’ responses to this question: “How do you like to prepare for conference?” *What are you doing to prepare for this blessed weekend?   What we’re talking about Last Sunday,  Shannon Acor led us in a great discussion of President Nelson’s conference addresses “What We Are Learning and Will Never Forget.” I seem to forget things faster than ever these days… So reviewing this talk from last April was a good thing! In his message, President Nelson asked us to “Think back on the past two years. How have you grown? What have you learned?” The answers f...

TEMPLE DAY!!! So many people came, there was standing room only available in the celestial room! Hello everyone!! What a week it has been in Wake Forest! To say I love it here is an understatement. I have fallen in love with the people and feel so blessed to have been called to serve amongst so many heavenly individuals! Everyday is such a gift and I couldn't imagine anywhere more perfect to be. This ward, our teaching pool, our cute city submerged in a forest...wow...paradise.  Ok here are some highlights of the week: * MY ZONE GOT TO GO TO THE TEMPLE!!! Literally nothing beats this experience * We had zone council and talked about recognizing the Holy Ghost in our day to day activities and how to not remain idle. Super powerful takeaways! * We did some chalk art at Joyner Park and found three people out of it! All of which APPROACHED US FIRST HAHA! We taught them the Restoration on the spot, gave them a copy of the Book of Mormon and took their numbers down to set up follo...
