Elder Gardner: 10/7/24
| How many vapes can you fit in your pocket? |
Kia Ora Whanau!
This week was a really good week! And yes i stuffed my pockets full of vapes at one point, so we will get straight into it!
Tuesday: this day we had a few lessons with less actives. Craig, Ama, and Brownie are all working on coming back to church, but its slow progress with ama and craig sadly. Still, it was a good day and we got a lot done!
Wednesday: this was our last district meeting for the transfer so we had crepes and played jeopardy in our district and went and had a district lunch after, so that was super fun! Then we contacted some people and tried to go over to this girls house who we had met last week and we had gave her a BoM, but she wasnt home 😢 i was bummed because she seemed keen on learning more. We are gonna keep trying tho.
We also had made a potential new friend! We are going to go back and hopefully they are still interested in the gospel! Then we had english class that night which was super fun as always!
Thursday: thursday was transfersssss! Even though me and my comp are still together and in our same area, we had to go to tranfers to help drive a compionship that will be joining our district! Being able to go to the mission office was nice becuase we got our packages (shoutout to my mom for the sweet package!) and we got to talk to all the other missionaries. But now with transfers over, our district is no longer a sis-trict (sister only district 😂), we have 4 elders and 3 sisters in our district which is a fun new change!
After transfers, we did some knocking and then had a lessons with Brownie about how to help her stop vaping. We have a workshop that is provided by the church, so we went over that with her and she is hyped to quit vaping. In the process of her quitting, however, she gave us all the vapes she had (12 or so) and also some bottles of beer that she had left in the fridge because she didnt want to put them in her trash for the reason that she might be tempted over the week to fish them out and use them. So that night we had to take our 5 minute walk home with my pockets full of vapes and a bottle of beer in each one of our hands 😂. Not a very good look, but we made it home safe and disposed of it.
Friday: on friday we got to do some service in the morning which was a nice change of pace. However, the lady who asked us to do service is known for taking advantage of the missionaires and just using them for her yardwork while she doesn't care at all about the church. We obviously love to help out as much as we can but doing hours of service each day can cut into important missionary work, so thats why we were apprehensive about helping her. She was super nice tho and she was understanding when we had to leave, so maybe she changed. Idk lol.
After that we went over to Nicholas' house. He is a super old guy and we had met him a while ago but we just havent gotten around to seeing him again. But when we went over he asked us to clean his kitchen and his bathroom. So we were like "ya sure no prob" the kitchen was kind of messy and we were able to clean it up pretty quick, but when we went into the bathroom we almost died. There was a huge pile of toilet paper and wipes on the floor and they were all covered in poop 🤢. He asked us to put it in a trash bag and luckily there was a broom to sweep it in and dispose of it, but man, it was nasty.
After that he said he wanted us to come over every day and help out cleaning his house, we had to explain to him that we are busy with other things usually but we promised to come over a couple times a week. I just hope he stops putting his poopy toilet paper on the floor 🤦♂️
Saturday: GENERAL CONFERENCE!............... SIKEEEEE. Sadly we didnt have general conference this weekend becuase we are 12 hours ahead of utah! So we are going to watch in next weekend instead. Dont spoil it!
So it was just a normal missionary day on Saturday, we did some visits and knocking and we had a lesson with jaydn that night. Jaydn is a bit of a strange man, he really wants to get baptized so we are starting lessons with him but we dont know if he will be able to stick to all the commitments, but we are hopeful and excited for him!
Sunday: sunday we had our ward council meeting and then we went with a member to pick up Brownie for church. We had fasting testimony meeting today and it was great even though i was super tired and hungry and i may have accidentally fallen asleep for a few minutes haha. After church, we got in contact with a less active member who runs a food donation service and we asked her if she can provide some food for a referral who contacted us becuase she needed food for her fam. So we made that food donatiom run and then we went to a members house for dinner. This family is super chill and we just talked and played cards and then ate fish for dinner that they had just caught the day before! It was super good!
Monday (today): today is P-day! Its raining down real hard today so i think we are just gonna go to the chapel and run any errands that we need to do. It should be good!
I cant believe its already been 6 weeks! Im halfway through training and ive already learned so much! I cant wait for the next 6 weeks to keep growing my testimony and helping others in their spiritual journey! I hope yous all enjoyed confrence and i cant wait to watch it and hear the words of our Prophet and Apostles. Having a prophet to lead our church is such a blessing that i used to overlook, but president Nelsons leadership in our church is so amazing! Go feast on the words of Christ and watch general conference!
