Sister and Elder Duncan: May 2024

Our kids and Stacy's siblings went to the Laie Temple

Aloha Friends and Family,

Wow, mission life is clipping by at a fast pace, we have four months left. We have been so blessed by our service here in the Laie mission. I can't begin to express the goodness of so many students, local members, senior, and junior missionaries who love to serve people from all over the world.

Today we had a baptism for a young man from Hong Kong named Makist. He came to BYU-H to attend college and he said that he really didn't understand why he came to BYU-H at first because he had no intention of joining the church. He has been here four years and said that as he has observed how happy everyone is and how much good they are doing, it was time to talk to the missionaries. He said his heart has changed and he loves everyone for not giving up on him. There were kids from all over the world at his baptism and the spirit was so strong.

We feel blessed to have this opportunity to serve here in Laie. We took Yi and Zyle from our ward to dinner. Yi is from China and graduated. He will start on a master's at U of U in the fall. Zyle is from the Philippines and has two more years of school. They are trying to figure things out as they are faced with the long distant relationship or get married.

We went to the Arizona, Utah, & Oklahoma Memorial's and out to dinner with Matt & Cindy Bringhurst, and then we all went to dinner with Doug Pane'e.

Stacy had her 60th birthday and Jesse, Kelsie, James, Haylee, Craig & Liz, Craig & Shelly, Marci & Abby came and helped celebrate. It was the best birthday ever! What a blessing to have family here to celebrate with.

All of what we do is so fulfilling and we love our mission. It does have its moments that remind us we are mortal. Our beloved fellow missionary Elder Lee Young passed away on May 5th. He had a massive heart attack two days prior to he and his wife Sister Tonya Young's return to Idaho. This was hard as we golfed together and had become great friends.

We are so grateful at times like these to know that “God knows each of us and hears every prayer we offer and responds to each of them according to the path He has outlined for our perfection” JR Holland.

We are so grateful for Heavenly Fathers plan of happiness and that we have each of you in our lives!  We love and miss our lives at home, but we are so grateful to have had this wonderful experience in a beautiful place known for being a refuge from the world, and live aloha.

Aloha nui loa,

Elder Dan & Sister Stacy Duncan
