Hermana Gardner: 12/5/23
It's Christmas Time!
It's been so so rainy recently! Which I absolutely love and will be one of the things I will miss most about Oregon. Next, I hope for the snow! Oregon snow is definitely different from Utah.
Overall, this week was pretty awesome! It definitely had its highs and lows. One of the hardest parts of missionary work is when friends don't keep commitments. You have such a great desire for them to progress closer to Jesus, but something is holding them back! Some of those things are in your control, but most of them are up to those you are teaching. It is in their hands to choose to follow Christ. Their conversion is theirs, and theirs alone. A lot of our friends have been getting sick and working on Sundays. But we can always find Hope in Jesus Christ and keep pressing forward.
This week we listen to a BYU devotional called "b100% responsible" for district council. It talks about how as we take 100% responsibility for all of our actions and our mistakes, it is in that moment that we can have the greatest power and control over a situation because can give it all to Jesus Christ. This talk really helped me realize that although our friends struggle sometimes and making commitments, we can always be 100% responsible and do everything we can and then wait on the Lord and He will do the rest.
One highlight this week was going on exchanges! I went to an English area with sister young and we had so much fun. We taught a cute father and daughter Duo about Heavenly Father and it was so precious comparing their relationship to his daughter's relationship with our father in heaven. The spirit was so strong. It was also awesome to see my companion/trainee sister esplin lead out our area and basically do it all alone because the other sister doesn't speak Spanish. She is awesome. Definitely a great example to me of relying on the Lord and having faith.
Another random funny experience was our friend carmen. When I was in the English area sister esplan had been texting our friend Carmen and had set up a lesson for that night. Little did we know we have been texting the wrong Carmen and when we got to the church we were so confused when we saw a different lady. It turns out she was interested in English class and we gave her the information as well as a book of mormon. We were able to share a quick message and had a member share their testimony on the phone that we had prepared for the other lesson. It's amazing to see how God Can Transform our mistakes into Miracles and how maybe it wasn't a mistake in the first place although we may have thought it was.
