Week 72: Conference Florida Style
Scout Benson
Hey hey hey! Yet another week has FLOWN by. This week was full of ups and downs. Miracles and pitfalls. Time to fill ya in.
We had a lesson with Maliah and Tanzi, and if all goes well they will both be getting baptized this saturday! Woo hooooo!! But pray hard for them because dang is Satan tricky and annoying.
Right after tanzi and maliahs we went to go visit a media referral we got. we had knocked the house last week, and no one had answered, but we felt good about it. so we went back to knock and realized we had knocked the wrong house! so we knocked the right house and we hear WHO IS IT? and we were like the missionaries! and we hear oh! then the door opens. and this kid is standing there and we go heyyy are you maliek? and he was like how do yall know my name? we told him we got a message saying he wanted to know more about Christ. he was like yeah! wanna come in? well we went and taught him a little about what we do then set up an appointment to come back in the morning. we did and taught the restoration and it was AMAZING. he soaked it up. he told us he believed all that we told him! it was so cool. Then on sunday morning he came and watched the first session of conference with us at the morses! he loved it. he asked us how he could get baptized! YAY MALIEK! we love him.
Sad news about jason :( he fell off the planet this week and got back into things he shouldnt be doing. so if everyone could pray for jason, he really needs it.
this week we were able to go table at a college campus! we set up our table and kids could come answer the question on our whiteboard. we talked to a lot of people and got rejected a TON. but it was fun :)
meanwhile at ysa we played volleyball and i served it right into the hoop. no backboard or anything. everyone went wild. best moment of my life.
we had our english class with selvin, and hes so funny. Elder free (the elder teaching the class) has adopted it so that hes teaching selvin english and selvin and him are teaching me spanish. so we'll go through the vocab and say it in spanish and english. then selvin will repeat the english ones then look at me and go "okay classmate, repeat" and i have to repeat the spanish ones. I also said the prayer in spanish. twas horrible. but im trying. anyways selvin is moving along swimmingly.
then SATURDAY!! general conference florida style for real let me tell you. the ysa all went to the institute teachers lake house. and since we're pretty much the misisonaries over the ysa we got to go. well we watched in on their dock. it was actually really spiritual and amazing, being surrounded by nature as you listened to the God of Natures prophets and apostles. In between sessions Gracie taught me how to fish. And the other missionaries but i was the only one who had NO CLUE what i was doing. the rest of the ysa went out on the boat and surfed and stuff. we thought we wouldnt catch anything and i was DEVISTATED. i needed to catch a fish. so i told Elder Harker he needed to pray that i would catch a fish. well he said a little prayer in his head and you guys. i caught TWO. and everyone else caught one too!!! crazy crazy. then we let them go again. the second session was just as amazing, and in the middle of it this huge florida storm rolled through and DUMPED on us. so we all moved in under the roof. very cozy. it was so fun. definetly a conference i will never ever forget.
A couple of my favorite talks were Vern P. Stanfills (he came to our mission when i was in gainesville!) about perfectionism vs being perfected in Christ. i think thats a message we all need to hear. OFTEN. I also loved President Nelsons talk about how being a peacemaker casts out Satan. How cool is it that we have the ability to do that just by being kind? If we were all kind, Satan would have no place here. There were so many good talks, and Im stoked that we're already able to go back and listen to them!! But this week the one I want to focus on is elder Stevensens. How to make Easter- the most important Christian holiday- a more Christ centered celebration. Finding the reason for the season!!! So heres my question for this week, how do yall bring Christ into easter? are there any traditions that you do? please share!! Sister j and i would love to join you :))
Love you all and Happy Easter!!!

Sis. Ericksen here: I loved your letter - very colorful and upbeat... in spite of the guy who fell off the planet. The ups and downs of missionary work! Bless you! ☼
