Sister Benson: 2/6/23
Week 64: oatmeal meltdown
Scout Benson
hey yall :)) this week was honestlyyyyyyyy...... not that awesome. but we kept going!! some crAzy things happened this week. heres a couple!
we got a call from this lady named anna! we set something up and went over and taught her the restoration. it was so awesome. she was feeling the Spirit and believed what we said. we were so grateful. it felt like God was answering prayers because the work has been hard here lately. then that night......
theres a young girl in our ward whose struggling with a lot of mental health issues, so details not included, we were at the church the other night with her and the bishop from 11 pm to 1 am. it was crazy. we came home and ate ice cream. not a situation i thought id be in as a missionary. then that morning.....
we as missionaries have certain rules. one of those rules is that we cant buy groceries for people. this is because they could become dependant on the missionaries, plus we really just dont have the funds for that. well we were sleeping in (with permission) cause we'd been up till the wee hours of the morning, and we are awoken by a phone call from anna. the elect lady we just talked about. she said hey can you bring me some oatmeal and milk today? and we started to explain that because of safety rules we arent allowed to do that. we were ready to help her find a way to get some, because she cant drive, but she went oh. and hung up on us. then she texted us and was like "that doesnt seem like something Christ would do. your books are on the porch." well we called her again and told her we were really sorry and explained the rule a little more. she was clearly embarressed for having acted like a CHILD but was too stubborn to admit it. so she was like well i would have paid! and uh no i didnt hang up on you, my phone died. (this is all being said in an angry way remember) anyways we kept our cool and told her wed still love to help her spiritually and she was like ugh fine. shes been ghosting us since :) this is like a grown adult woman with a proffessional job. humiliating for her. so yeah. that felt like we got kicked when we were down. the morning after our late night, our miracle person had an oatmeal melt down.
then we had tradeoffs! i went to holmes creek with sister homer. shes so cute. we talked to lots of fun people, saw tons of stray cats and just had a blast. tradeoffs are always fun, and it was good to power through the exhaustion.
saturday night we had a lesson on the beach. (not the actual beach, that what we call panama city beach. its just the beach) so we had a lesson on the beach in the evening so we were like hmmm we should go see the sunset on the (actual) beach! should have been a 10 minute adventure. LITTLE DID WE KNOW. it was madigras!!!! so the place was packed. a literal parade. people dressed as pirates. everyone in purple and green and yellow. it was honestly super dope. we ran around and talked to people and saw the sunset and it was awesome. sister johnson and i have decided we're coming back for next years madigras celebration and we're gonna dress up as pirates. so fun.
on sunday we taught selvin!! he came to our english class again and then after we taught the restoration with the help of our translator, brother petersen. it was SUPER cool. the Spirit was strong and Selvin felt it. he told us that he felt like joseph smith, he was just searching for truth. we told him to pray about our message, because nothing we say matters if God doesnt back it up. So i would invite yall to do the same!! Pray and ask God if the Book of Mormon is true, pray and ask God if Joseph Smith was a prophet. He will answer. Ive done it myself. I know it will work for you :))
so yes! a crazy week. i plan to take a HUGE nap today because i am beat, physically and mentally. but the work goes on and i love it :))
