 Stake Conference with Elder Slaughter

Amanda Gardner <amanda.gardner@missionary.org>

Hola hola!!! What a great and crazy week!!

We had transfers and sister Frazier and I are both staying, yay!!! I'm so excited to stay here in Tualatin in the Branch and help our friends keep progressing on the covenant path.

The highlight this week was probably saturday and Sunday. We met a friend named Victor and he wants to be baptized! He is such an amazing person and was so involved in the scriptures right from the get go.

We had stake conference and a general authority was able to speak to us. He spoke to us about the sacrament and I would love to share some of what he said with you all because it really changed my view.

First off - When we are partaking of the sacrament it is a memorial service. We are there in memory of our Savior and his atoning sacrifice. We remember the blood he spilt and the body that was bruised, beaten, and broken.

Second - When we go to the sacrament we aren't just renewing our baptismal covenants, but ALL of our covenants.

Third - When Jesus instituted the sacrament, he taught us that what WE offer is the broken heart and the contrite spirit. This is the most important part of the sacrament meeting, not the sacrament. Without it, without the desire to repent and change, the ordinance of sacrament is meaningless.

Fourth - We don't have to wait until Sunday to recieve a remission of our sins. We are promised the spirit with us always after we make the covenant of baptism and we know that it is through the reception of the Holy Ghost that we are sanctified. The sacrament is a time to remember our covenants and re-commit and promise to keep them.

I'm so excited to take the sacrament this Sunday in remembrance of my Savior and everything he has done for me. I invite each of you to find one way to make your sacrament experience a little more sacred and a little more holy!

Love you all
