Week 57: a christmas tree, a baptism, and TLC
HELLOOOOO!!!!! hi :) this week has been full of miracles and touching moments. I love being a missionary. I just never want to leave. lets get into it!!
Early this week we went to visit the Coles. Paula (the mom) was telling us how she has SIX doctors appointments between then (thursday) and Christmas, because Paula has cancer. They have been scrapping junk metal out of their yard to pay for doctors visits, gas money, the light bill, and food. So they dont have money to buy gifts or anything like that this Christmas. She told us how her and her husband had gone on a walk all over the place looking for a little tree they could cut down, so the kids would have a tree, but they couldnt find one. Well.... the next day we showed up with our fully decorated little tree. The kids were SO excited. they just kept saying we didnt think we were going to have a tree!! Sister Morley and I both cried later. Jesus didnt have a tree, we dont need one either. So although our apartment looks a little more empty now, our hearts are definetly more full. It strengthened my testimony of just love and charity. Nothing is better than watching those kids faces light up when they saw it. Besides, we're spending Christmas eve with the other sisters, and they have a tree. :)
And then!! The Coles got baptized on saturday!! It was a beautiful baptism. They are so sweet, and their dad even came :) So many people came to support. I love my job.
We were driving out in the middle of nowhere to find this guy, and we passed this old lady putting christmas lights on her trailer. we drove past about a block and i finally said..... we should go help her with her lights. Sister Morley WHIPPED the car around and we went up there. She was SUPER standoff-ish at first. told us she didnt want a message and didnt want us to come back. but we ended up just talking for a little bit and she totally opened up. She just talked to us about how hard life had been lately. By the end she told us we could come back any time. It was such a testament to me that God changes and softens hearts. and we just need to be tools in his hands.
We also had zone conference this week!! There was a talent show cause its Christmas. Sister Morley and I were in charge of gathering who wanted to participate. Well like ONE person from our whole zone signed up. which is just not acceptable. so we talked the sisters into it, and one of the zone leaders, and then it was up to us. But my mom hates when talent shows are all singing, so i decided we couldnt do that. And so. They call our name. They say ???? where are the sisters??? And then Sister Morley and I STRUT. and i mean STRUT. Into the room. I have my best accent on. My best mustache. And then i finger painted Sister Morley on a giant canvas. It was truly iconic. Yall should have been there. (dont worry theres pictures)
we played this game called taboo with some members. You have to guess the word. Like pictionary but.... pictureless. So the mom was trying to get us to guess and she goes, "tlc sings a song about them!!!" So obviously I start saying WATERFALLS!!! (which elder vickery said and the same time, so we high fived about that later) SCRUBS!! CREEPS!!! it was creep. She was impressed. Shout to my aunt Shanan to who I credit my tlc knowledge. (Also was referenced by me and this mom: Metallica, new kids on the block (to which we both admitted having tshirts), fantasy island and Cher.)
and then sunday!! the coles were confirmed, and our friend Ashley came to church!!!! It was such a perfect sunday :) then that night we finished off with a vanessa joy/marvin goldstein concert. it was really spiritual and they are super funny. and talented.
ANYWAYS!! what a week. please pray for the Coles, for Marah, for Mary and Bradley, Ashley, Denise, and Israel. I love yall and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!
christmas sugar cookies! they took FOREVER to make and i never knew that cause i never helped my mom. sorry mom.
