Sister Gardner: 8/3/22
Welcome to "the hood"
Hola hola everyone!!! Bienvenidos from Portland! It's been a little while so I'll give some updates
1. A mission rule is that I can only message immediate family on Facebook, so if you want to contact me please do it by email!
2. I left the MTC and my district which was so so sad because they had become like family to me, but I'm so excited to see how there missions go because they are going to do great things!
3. I had to say goodbye to hermana mapes my compañera (triste), I know your killing it out there in Tempe hermana mapes!!
4. Was out and about traveling and doing missionary work the day I left the MTC for almost 24 hours! I was so tired by the end of the night, but it was so awesome. When I was on the plane I got to talk to the lady next to me about Jesus and her entire life story which was cool. I've learned as a missionary, people will literally tell you everything and anything jaja.
5. Met my mission presidents the Haymonds and my companions sister everitt and sister olson (im in a trio) who I absolutely LOVE! The Haymonds are called of God and committed to this gospel and have helped me feel so at home here in Portland. And my companions are so so knowledgeable and have such powerful testimonies, I love them!
6. My first area is in Mount Hood, which is the absolute best place ever! People call it the promised land because everyone here is so nice and the members are celestial jaja. My companions and I serve in an English ward and Spanish branch, so I've been able to speak a little bit of both and contribute a lot more to the lessons.
Spiritual thought:
Here in the Portland mission they emphasize hugely being personally converted to Jesus Christ and his doctrine first, and then being able to share it with others. I love this so much and I've already seen my personal conversion to Christ grow as I've been here. I know that the mission is not about us, it is the gospel and the spirit that converts. We are just the instruments in God's hand and as we turn to Him and rely on Him others can feel His love and come to know the truth for themselves.
Anyways les amo mucho mucho! You guys are the best and I'm so grateful for you guys!! If you need anything let me know. A parting scripture for y'all is Alma 26:37 -- I know God is mindful of you and loves you and sees what you experience each day! I invite you to look for his hand in your life so you can feel his love.
Les amo,
Hermana Gardner
