RS Newsletter: 5/24/22
Thanks to those who signed up for garden time at the temple-- Reminder: It's this Thursday! and PS, it would be great to see a pic or two on our FB group if you think to share : )
Welcome Graduates!
These girls bless our world. We're so happy to have them joining Relief Society. What exciting things they have ahead...
Ruby Benson
Ruby will be attending UVU this fall. She’s declared her major to be Art and Design-drawing and painting (emphasis) but reserves the right to alter that course as she gets a better idea of her direction as an artist. She’s excited to take any and all art classes that the university has to offer. Her favorite media thus far include watercolor, oil paint, colored pencil, digital art, pottery and stained glass. Besides her love for “doing” art, she loves and truly appreciates music and film. She is well versed in music from many decades and also pays great attention to film scores. She keeps track of all film directors and appreciates the scenery, lighting, composition, timing and all of those things that most of us overlook when watching a film! It will be fun to see what direction the arts take her in life.
Ruby is a very internally-solid young woman. She puts great thought into everything and doesn’t make decisions lightly. Although more reserved, she is sure and confident and never does things “because everyone else is”. She has shown incredible courage as she’s faced changes and challenges this year. Ruby considers serving a mission when she turns 19 next summer, but for now is focused on surviving her Freshman Year.
Whitney Jarman
Whitney is the youngest of 5 children. She is an old soul who is extremely spiritual and loves the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She leads by example with her quiet intuitive nature and truly cares about all people. She is a friend to anyone she meets. She was born in Kinston, NC where we lived for 21 years. She comes from a family strong in the performing arts and has continued the tradition. She started dancing actually while still in the womb. (When Mom was pregnant with her and at her big sister’s competitions, she literally looked like she was dancing in there.) 😊. She was also able to be in shows with her older siblings as a child.
When she moved here 7 years ago she started her Utah experience in dance. She danced on National teams and received various awards and even got to participate on the SALT performing arts team. These last few years she participated on the BYU Youth Ballroom teams and competed with them, and also has a ballroom partner who she competes with regularly. She has danced on the SHS dance company and has enjoyed leading her company these last 2 years as the president. After graduation she plans on taking a year off to teach, coach and choreograph at a dance studio. After that she will pursue BYU with either the ballroom dance team or to try out to be a Cougarette.
Calianne Skinner
Calianne is graduating this month and will be going to BYU in the fall to study psychology. She is a great student and takes hard classes and gets high grades. She took most of the foods classes at the high school and makes terrific homemade pizza and snickerdoodle blondies.
She's also very athletic. She played on the varsity tennis team and went to state. She is a terrific basketball player and even at 5'3", can snatch rebounds from unsuspecting taller players camping under the basket. She runs track for the exercise and got up to 8 miles this year! She works at Funfinity. She's a dedicated journal writer and scripture reader. She also plays the piano and fills our house with amazing music. She loves her family and her friends and is a ton of fun.
Cheyenne Skinner
Cheyenne is graduating this month and will be going to UVU in the fall to study nursing. She has always been a hard-working student, taking hard classes and getting high grades. She's taken all the medical classes at the high school and will be able to keep you alive until the paramedics arrive in case of emergency.
She's also very athletic. She played on the varsity tennis team and went to state. She is a terrific basketball player and runs track. She competed at state in the 300 meter hurdles! She recently completed her certification to be a CNA and works at Heritage Assisted Living. She's a dedicated journal writer and scripture reader. In addition, she plays the piano and fills our house with amazing music. She loves her family and her friends and is a ton of fun.
What we’re reading
This week our Come Follow Me reading is Joshua 1-8; 23-24. “Be Strong and of a Good Courage.”
When we have our own rivers to cross and walls to bring down, wonderful things can happen in our lives, because it is “the Lord [who] will do wonders among [us]” (Joshua 3:5).
