Latter-day Saint Olympians Competing in Tokyo

Are you finding inspiration in the great events and athletes of the Tokyo Summer Olympics? Hard to beat the joy in the story of the high jumpers sharing the gold. And if you didn’t know, more than a dozen Latter-day Saint Olympians are competing.

Quick calendar note

Stake conference is on August 21-22. Mark your calendars. More info to follow.

What we’re talking about

This Sunday,  Susan Talbot will lead us in a discussion of Elder Timothy Dyches’ conference addresses “Light Cleaveth unto Light.”

“When the lights did return, the darkness instantly surrendered, as darkness must always surrender, to even the faintest light.”

What we’re reading

This week our Come Follow Me reading is D&C 85-87, “Stand Ye in Holy Places.”

… the value of this revelation is less in predicting when calamity will come and more in teaching what to do when it does. The counsel is the same in 1831, 1861, and 2021: “Stand ye in holy places, and be not moved.”

Getting to know  you… Marge Ericksen

I grew up in Grace, Idaho - a speck on the map - but a wonderful beginning. Had a very unsophisticated youth - worked in the  potato fields to make money through junior high, high school, and two college summers. Our graduating class was small but close, and I've written an annual newsletter every fall for decades. Altho, sadly, I am sending more "obituaries" throughout the year as you might suppose.

I graduated from Ricks College and took some writing courses at the U of U. I worked for the Utah State Board of Education - where I met Nick  - and then years later worked in the Omaha NE Mayor's office as his correspondence secretary.

I have been part  of two "writing groups," and now I need to type/edit the best of the best essays still in notebooks.

Nick and I celebrated our 52nd anniversary last fall. Our four children and 13 grandchildren all live in Utah. Life is good! ☼

We moved here nine years ago after almost 40 years in Omaha. While we surely miss our friends there (but not the extreme summers or winters), we love this ward!

Happy Birthday to you
